Biography[]

Appearance[]

Adam is a Black American man with short dark hair. He wears a yellow t-shirt or tank top (the latter having black shoulder pads), black fingerless gloves, black pants, and motorcycle boots. In Streets of Rage 4, he wears green sunglasses, his hair is more shaved on the sides, and he sports a yellow muscle shirt with sleeves rolled up to his biceps and an ample V-shaped neck that he leaves unbuttoned (exposing part of his pectorals). He ditches the shoulder pads in favor of suspenders, and his boots gain an armor-like appearance with yellow plates/guards.

Personality[]

Adam is seen as a cool, handsome man who never gives up a fight. Though mostly serious at times, he occasionally displays a witty sense of humor, as seen in Streets of Rage 3.

Story[]

Streets of Rage / Bare Knuckle[]

Adam makes his debut in 1991's Streets of Rage as one of the three cops who quit the city's corrupt police force, in order to personally hunt down the Syndicate leader themselves. Along with Axel Stone and Blaze Fielding, he manages to defeat the syndicate leader Mr. X in his own headquarters.

Streets of Rage 3 / Bare Knuckle III[]

Adam saves the day in Bare Knuckle III

Adam is once again a non-playable character, sending Skate to aid the team in his stead. However, he is key to providing the location of the final stage (if the General/Chief is saved) or locating and dismantling the rest of the bombs (if the General/Chief dies). He later appears with the team after the credits.

Streets of Rage 4 / Bare Knuckle IV[]

By the time of Streets of Rage 4 Adam became a Special Forces agent, despite having planned to retire from the police to care for his daughter Cherry Hunter. He was assigned into a task force to infiltrate the new Y Syndicate.

Adam is unlocked after completing Stage 4. As Estel approaches the team, he appears to defeat her. He urges the others to go, telling them he is right behind them. He has a key role in the rest of the story and is the one to arrest Mr. Y and Ms. Y in the game's credits.

Gameplay[]

Adamrh

Adam's signature roundhouse kick

In the original Streets of Rage, Adam is the strongest in terms of pure, raw attack power, but is also the slowest out of the three playable characters. He has above-average jumps, stamina and endurance. His move list was very limited, with no real "special moves" like those for characters featured in Streets of Rage 2 and Streets of Rage 3.

For his return in Streets of Rage 4, Adam's gameplay has drastically changed, while still retaining some familiarity to his original moveset. Unlike his powerhouse fighting style from the first game, Adam is much faster (having the second fastest jab, after his daughter Cherry) and more technical, and can now jump-cancel after the third hit of his normal combo, allowing for juggles and limited air combos. He is unique as he can perform quick hops to approach his opponents or go behind them while escaping attacks, performed by tapping forward twice. Another unique feature is that his standing jump attack allows him to hit in both left and right directions. making it very effective when surrounded. Thematically, his moveset features green aura flames and wolves.

Blitz Attacks[]

  • Uzi Punch: Adam punches twice in front of him, launching opponents forward. This move is great after the third hit of his normal combo, as the punch launches opponents directly upwards. Uzi Punch can also hits opponents off-the-ground.
  • Sword Upper: the alternate Blitz attack unlockable in the Survival Mode DLC. Adam throws a swing upwards, creating a large green blade in front of him and launching opponents upwards. While this move comes out fast, its recovery is a bit lengthy. However, it sends opponents high enough in the air for aerial follow ups. In addition, this move also hits opponents off-the-ground.

Defensive Special Attacks[]

  • Chopper: Adam performs a spinning whirlwind kick, hitting enemies around him and knocking them down. Fast and covers a large radius around him. This moves hits opponents off-the-ground. Its animation is slightly reminiscent of Ryu and Ken's Tatsumaki Senpukyaku from the Street Fighter series.
  • Split Fangs: the alternate Defensive Special Attack unlockable in the Survival Mode DLC. Similar to his standard jump attack, Adam does a split kick hitting opponents on both sides. It covers more range than Chopper, as well being faster overall, at the expense of not hitting opponents off-the-ground.

Offensive Special Attacks[]

  • Howl Fang: Adam kicks twice in front of him, with the second kick creating a large wolf jaw made of green flames. This moves hits opponents off-the-ground.
  • Sword Smash: the alternate Offensive Special Attack unlockable in the Survival Mode DLC. Adam performs a shoulder tackle and does a quick short leap forward, and slams his fist on the ground, erupting green energy blades that throws enemies in the air. This move also hits opponents off-the-ground. Its animation is slightly reminiscent of Terry Bogard's Power Geyser from the Fatal Fury / The King of Fighter series.

Air Special Attacks[]

  • Air Chopper: Adam performs a spinning whirlwind kick while moving forward in the air, hitting opponents multiple times (around 5 hits). This is Adam's best juggling tool and can be used for powerful air combos. Its animation is slightly reminiscent of Ryu and Ken's Tatsumaki Senpukyaku from the Street Fighter series.
  • Slash Kick: the alternate Air Special Attack unlockable in the Survival Mode DLC. Adam performs a kick enveloped in flames that covers a large distance.

Star Moves[]

  • Summon Police: Adam's Star Move in the original Streets of Rage and in his retro version for Streets of Rage 4, where he calls the police to bombard the battlefield.
  • Slash Kick: the alternate Star Move unlockable in the DLC for Streets of Rage 4, and exclusive to Streets of Rage Adam. Adam propels himself forward with a flying kick that covers a huge distance.
  • Sword Strike: Adam punches the ground to unleash a geyser green energy blades that launches opponents upwards. Its animation is slightly reminiscent of Terry Bogard's Power Geyser from the Fatal Fury / The King of Fighter series.
  • Lift Off: the alternate Star Move unlockable in the Survival Mode DLC. Adam performs a super version of chopper, creating a green tornado that sucks opponents and deal high damage. Its animation is slightly reminiscent of Ryu's Shin Tatsumaki Senpukyaku from the Street Fighter series.

Notable Moves[]

  • Bounce-steps: as a reference to his kickboxing fighting style, Adam is unique as he can perform quicks hops, allowing him to move quickly around the stage and move unhindered through enemies. If he hops behind an enemy, he'll also turn around towards them, allowing for some quick retaliations.

Fighting Style[]

Adam uses a form of boxing with a large number of kicks added into his move set, more closely resembling kickboxing than actual traditional boxing. In the first game he is notable for his raw attack power, most notably in his normal combo, with the uppercut-to-roundhouse being particularly devastating. This carries over to Streets of Rage 4, where he can use the uppercut to juggle his opponents, while the roundhouse kick is useful to start wall bounces. Streets of Rage 4 also gave Adam moves that were inspired by his updated move set in Streets of Rage Remake, most notably his neutral jump kick.

Character Evolution[]

Adam lacks much of the characterization of his Streets of Rage 2 and Streets of Rage 3 counterparts, despite being featured in some capacity in every game. One notable aspect to his physical appearance is the removal of the shoulder pads he wore during the events of Streets of Rage in the subsequent sequels.

SEGA Heroes[]

Adam Hunter appears as a playable character in SEGA Heroes. He is a yellow rare controller hero that can be playable after 25/10 shards are collected and utilizes a few moves from his own games, such as kicks. His design is based on his appearance in the first Streets of Rage game. He appears in Campaign, Arena, Events and Survival.

He has special attacks with knives and any long weapons (baseball bat, stick or pipe). Nothing special with the sword, however, he can deliver a long-range slice with it which becomes very useful in dealing with hordes of opponents.
